Drivers

Driver agreement.

How driving with Round works: you are your own boss, how you are paid, and what is needed to drive.

Draft for review. Prepared for Round in November 2026 and being checked before it is final. Please read it, and take independent advice if you want to, before you agree.

1. Who this agreement is between

This agreement is between Round ("Round", "we") and you, a driver who delivers food or gives rides through the Round Driver app ("you"). You agree to it when you are approved and accept it in the app.

2. You are an independent contractor

You work for yourself as an independent contractor. You are not an employee of Round or of any business you deliver for. In particular:

  • Your own time. You choose if, when and for how long you go online. You are never required to be available on particular days or times, or for a minimum number of hours. Any shifts shown in the app are optional sign-ups to help plan busy nights, and you can drop them.
  • Your own choice of jobs. You can accept or decline any job. Declining jobs never lowers your pay, your access to jobs or your standing with Round.
  • Work for others. You are free to work for anyone else, including other delivery or ride apps, at any time you are not doing a Round job.
  • Substitutes. You may arrange for another driver to do work in your place, as long as that driver has been approved by Round and meets the requirements in section 4, because the law and our customers' safety require us to check every driver.
  • Your own tools. You supply and pay for your own vehicle, fuel, phone and data.
  • Independent advice. You have been given the chance to read this agreement and get independent advice (for example from a lawyer or Community Law) before agreeing to it.

We will not end this agreement because you declined work, did not go online, or worked for someone else.

3. What you are paid

  • For each delivery you complete you are paid the greater of $4.00 or 60% of the delivery fee, unless a store that uses its own drivers sets a different rate, which you will see before you accept.
  • Ride fares are split as shown in the app before you accept a ride.
  • If customers tip, tips go to you in full.
  • You can see what you have earned and what has been paid in the app. Payments go to the bank account you add, on the schedule shown in the app.

4. Requirements to drive with Round

Food delivery

  • 18 years or older, with the right to work in New Zealand on a visa that allows self-employment if you are not a citizen or resident.
  • A current New Zealand full car licence (class 1). A restricted licence may be accepted for food delivery only, within its conditions (driving alone between 5am and 10pm, and no passengers).
  • A vehicle with a current warrant of fitness and registration.
  • Vehicle insurance that covers using the vehicle for delivery work (many standard policies do not, so please check with your insurer). At least third party cover is required.
  • Consent to a police vetting check.

Rides (carrying passengers)

  • Everything above, and a current passenger (P) endorsement from NZTA. To get one you need a full licence held for at least two years, and NZTA checks you are a fit and proper person and medically fit.
  • A vehicle with a current certificate of fitness (CoF) suitable for a small passenger service.
  • Follow NZTA's rules for small passenger services, including work time limits and logbook rules.

You must tell us straight away if any of this changes, for example your licence is suspended, your endorsement lapses or your insurance ends. You upload your documents in the app, and the app reminds you before they expire.

5. Safety

  • Follow the road rules at all times. Do not use your phone while driving except as the law allows.
  • Never drive impaired by alcohol, drugs or tiredness.
  • Handle food so it stays safe: keep it covered, upright and away from anything that could contaminate it, and deliver it promptly.
  • You can refuse or stop any job you think is unsafe, with no penalty.
  • Report any crash, injury, threat or incident to Round as soon as it is safe to do so. Round and you both have duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, and we will work with you to manage risks such as late-night deliveries and hot food.

6. Customers and their information

  • Be polite and professional with customers, businesses and our team.
  • Use customers' names, phone numbers and addresses only to complete that job, and never keep, copy or share them.
  • When you have a job accepted or picked up, the app shares your location with the customer. You can read how we handle your information in our privacy policy.
  • Delivery photos you take are used as proof of delivery and may be shown to the customer.

7. Tax, GST and ACC

  • You are responsible for your own income tax and ACC levies as a self-employed person.
  • Round deals with GST on delivery and ride fees under Inland Revenue's marketplace rules for listed services, once Round is required to. If you are GST registered, tell us and keep your details up to date.
  • We give you a record of your earnings to help with your tax.

8. Ending this agreement

  • You can stop driving and close your account at any time.
  • We can end or pause your access with notice, or straight away for serious reasons, such as unsafe driving, dishonesty, abuse, theft, misuse of customer information, or no longer meeting the requirements in section 4. Where it is fair to do so, we will tell you why and give you a chance to respond first.
  • You will still be paid for jobs completed before the agreement ended.

9. Responsibility

You are responsible for your vehicle, your driving, any fines and any damage you cause. Where the law allows, Round is not responsible for your indirect losses, such as lost income from other work. Nothing in this agreement removes any right you have that cannot be excluded by law.

10. Changes

If we change this agreement, we will give you at least 14 days' notice in the app before the change takes effect. If you do not agree with a change, you can stop driving with Round.

11. New Zealand law

This agreement is governed by New Zealand law.
